Journal prompts for grounding
Amidst dark winter mornings and toddler life, the morning walk that would pull me back to myself and connect me to my heart have been a thing of the past.
Until a bright blue sky earlier this week, what felt like the first sunny morning of the year, lured me back outside and I remembered.
The presence that comes with this half an hour of community with nature.
The grounding as I place my feet on the earth, step by step.
The opportunity to lay down everything that’s heavy.
It really felt like I returned to myself in a way that has been missing lately. Sometimes it takes the sudden presence of feeling grounded to realise how disconnected and ungrounded we have actually been, which is where journaling prompts for grounding can gently support you.
How grounded do you feel right now? Do you need to lay down something heavy?
When we’re up in our head, far away from the ground, listening to our thoughts and losing our awareness to them, we feel unsteady and unstable. Lost in overthinking, we lose our connection and the truth of our selves.
The pause this walk gave me to find a presence and groundedness has left me feeling more content, more creative and more at peace since.
So I wanted to offer some somatic journaling prompts for grounding to invite you into more stillness and grounding if you’ve been feeling unsteady, unstable or a little lost and disconnected.
We’re not meant to do it alone.
Sometimes we need the support of another when we find ourselves always overthinking and need to ground and make sense of our lives.
I’m Suzi, a compassionate mindbody coach, who supports deep thinkers to meet themselves in a more embodied way for a life of authenticity, health and truth.

Journaling prompts for grounding
Move your head and neck slowly around the space you’re in…
What are 3 colours you notice that feel calming and safe?
What pattern or texture do you spot that feels soothing, maybe light and shadow or something soft?
What do you notice about your breath as you do this?
Wherever you are, whether out on a walk or sitting or lying down, notice the surface beneath you…
What does it feel like to focus on sending your attention and breath, downwards towards this surface?
As you focus on your body with the above prompts…
What are the thoughts that most take you back upwards into the mind?
With the felt steadiness of ground, what words might you offer yourself for more stability?
What’s been laying heavy on you?
What might you be ready to lay down?
What does being grounded feel like for you?
What’s one kind thing you can do for yourself today that would make you feel more grounded?
How can you support yourself, leaning on the support of safe others if necessary?
I hope these prompts help you to reconnect with your body and find a felt sense of groundedness, bringing with it presence, connection and peace. Journaling has been a huge part of my recovery from chronic illness and return to my body and I truly believe in its power to connect us with our true selves.
